Our Philosophy
The Hybrid Home/School Experience
"Receive the children in reverence, educate them in love, and set them forth in freedom."
-Rudolf Steiner
Honeycomb Cottage School offers a hybrid homeschool experience guided by the principles and indications of Waldorf Education. We operate out of a private residence that has a private space for the school. We hire trained Waldorf teachers and assistants to bring this experience. For the 2025/2026 school year, we serve students from Preschool through 8th Grade, operating from September 2025 to May 2026 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Our dedicated teachers collaborate closely with our homeschooling families to provide a comprehensive Waldorf curriculum. In Early Childhood, our approach is play-based with gentle academics, while our grade-level program focuses on developmentally appropriate academics interwoven with arts, movement, music, and hands-on learning experiences.

Waldorf Education-An Introduction
Hybrid homeschooling has tremendous advantages for both the students and parents. Students have the best of both worlds, a three-day-a-week in-person school experience allowing them to interact with peers and be guided by a dedicated and trained teacher and a homeschool experience with a Home Lesson sent home by the cottage school as well as other subjects families want to bring. It also gives them time to be at home with their family, to pursue other activities such as nature school or other extracurriculars, and time to play and enjoy childhood.
Parents become a part of an amazing community that works collaboratively to bring beautiful experiences to the children. Teachers lighten the load on parents by providing instruction three days a week as well as planning and providing work for a weekly Home Lesson for Grades Students.
Treasuring Childhood Parent Education meetings will be held two times a year and we have a back to school orientation. Families will also have the opportunity to celebrate the rhythm of the year by enjoying a vibrant festival life and seasonal famliy field trips. Our parents are deeply loved and involved in the school. We require twenty parent volunteer hours each year as a way to give back to their child’s unique school experience.

We have six beautiful and cozy classroom spaces within a community home and dedicated Waldorf-trained lead teachers and assistants provide our unique in-classroom experience. Combined with an amazing outdoor play-yard complete with a garden and animals, access to nature trails and local parks, and fun camping and field trip experiences, the children have an amazing out-of-classroom experience as well.
Each classroom will host 5-12 children guided by a lead teacher as well as an assistant teacher (only lead teachers in upper grades). This low child-to-teacher ratio allows for deep relationships between the children, teachers, and parents and ensures that parents are kept well informed of their child’s progress.
Unique to Waldorf education our grades teachers progress on to the next grade with their students. This “looping” system provides for a unique family-teacher-student relationship that evolves and allows for a reciprocity of giving and receiving support.
We honor childhood and child development and the curriculum we offer is presented in a way that meets the child on a soul level and allows for individualized instruction and differentiated math lessons in grades. For grade-level children, we believe that when the curriculum is meeting them on a soul level so should the academics. When certain thresholds are met in child development they are primed and ready to take on certain tasks and responsibilities.
Our Early Childhood students have a play-based experience and space is held for them to be honored and to be children. Our Early Childhood teachers are a huge part of the curriculum as the child learns through imitation in the first seven years, they are beautiful examples of imitation for young children. We honor these young souls by providing only gentle academics until grade one.
